The production of natural gas, crude oil and nuclear power all require materials that must withstand the harshest imaginable conditions. Deepwater drilling for both natural gas and crude oil is no exception. The ocean adds several hundred meters or more to the fluid column, increasing the equivalent circulating density and downhole pressures in the drilling well. Ceramco’s OEM ceramic parts made of aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃, alumina) exhibit very high compressive strength, easily handling these incredible pressures and the constant friction. Also, Ceramco OEM ceramic parts are unaffected by the corrosive nature of saltwater.

Both the materials and processes involved producing nuclear energy pose extreme material challenges. In the nuclear fuel cycle, fuel rods are bombarded by neutrons, producing heat and radioactive byproducts.
